Indoor Wayfinding

The Wayfinding Starter Kit utilizes BLE Beacons, Cisco Spaces IoT Services and Pointr Discover to deliver a guided demonstration of wayfinding capabilities. You do not need a map nor Cisco infrastructure to run tests with this kit. If you want to test if your own map contact us (help-starterkit@external.cisco.com) and we will work together on the scope of a pilot with you.

Enable visitors to search for specific shops, products, food or facilities (e.g. toilets, ATMs, meeting rooms). The search experience is seamless with fast suggestions and real-time autocomplete. It is fully configurable by venues.​

Pointr App & SDK​​

Pointr Discover is an indoor navigation SDK and app that provides digital maps, instant indoor location and intuitive navigation. Visitors can navigate their way seamlessly around your venue with turn-by-turn directions, smart search and smooth indoor-outdoor transitions. It natively integrates with Cisco Spaces and Kontakt.io

Unboxing Experience

Setting up your Wayfinding Starter Kit is a simple process.

Pre-requisites with Starter Kits: Have a Cisco Spaces account with ACT license. Sign up for free here: spaces.cisco.com

  • Have an account provisioned on the Cisco Spaces platform. If you don’t have an active account, please email spaces.cisco.com
  • Create user account – Accept invitation from Cisco Spaces & setup password
  • Login to your Cisco Spaces Account http://dnaspaces.io
  • Select IoT Services > Device Management on the menu in the top left ​​
  • Click on the Onboard Devices button
  • Select Floor Beacons​​
  • Enter the Order ID found on your box. This is a one-time, case-sensitive unique identifier. Use it to claim all devices that are part of your starter kit at once.​
  • Confirm that your beacons are visible under Device Management > Floor Beacons

Note: If you have access to more that one DNA-S account, please bare in mind that you can only claim your devices on one account

  • Pick a large room
  • Place each beacon on the ceiling of your room.
    a) Each beacon has a number (1, 2, 3, 4). Place the beacons close to each corner of the room as described in the picture:​

    b) If you cannot place beacons on the ceiling, it is good practice to place them at least 2m / 6.5ft high
    c) Use double-sided tape to attach your beacons
  • Launch the app and see the pre-loaded map of the Cisco Lab
  • The “blue dot” should appear
    • If you can’t see the blue dot, please check that your BLE Beacons are installed according to instructions detailed in Step 2 and Step 3. Activate both Bluetooth and Location on your phone settings (to do so, please watch the tutorial videos in Step 4)
  • Start walking around your room and see the blue dot moving around the pre-loaded map of the Cisco Lab
  • Select a Point of Interest (PoI) from the pre-loaded list (cafeteria, entrance, conference room, …). You can do so by either tapping the Point of Interest on the map or by using the search bar at the bottom of your screen
  • Select ‘Navigate’ to visualize the path to the PoI
  • Start simulating navigation in the Cisco Lab by following the path on the pre-loaded map. We are using the Beacons you set up to mirror you at the Cisco Lab as if you were there.
